Prefolds. The Americans use these prefold nappies instead of terries. They are made of several layers of woven cotton, sewn in layers to form a rectangle that is folded to fit inside a Velcro fastening waterproof wrap, no pins needed. Use a gusseted wrap for a better fit. They come in several sizes, each with a slightly different level of absorbency. We don't keep toddler size as if you all ready have small size, you can use them to boost the regular size at night when your baby is older. Prefolds are very versatile and can be sterilized or boiled if you wish, though it isn’t really necessary and will shorten the life the nappy if you do so continuously. Like all nappies, they need several washes to bring them to usable standard and size. Many people use these in addition to some All-In-Ones as they are very absorbent, easy to launder and very economical. They are easy to dry, but can take a little while to dry through all the eight layers in the centre. They can easily last through 2 or 3 babies. 4x8x4 means 4 layers either side of a panel of 8 layers. We sell small in 4x6x4's as 4x8x4 can be a little bulky for some small babies.

Prefolds will benefit from a 90/95 degree wash when brand new, to open and fluff up the fibres and kick-start absorbency.
