Organic cotton tie on nappies, birth to potty in one size. From £7.50 for 3
£7.50

The Disana organic cotton tie on nappies are pretty much as green as you can go for a nappy. These are not the quickest of nappies to use, and they do have some drawbacks, such as needing care with the ties in the wash, but they are organic, very cheap and surprisingly neat and cute when on. The nappy looks very comfortable for baby. They are also by far the fastest drying nappy for birth to potty use, you won't need to resort to a tumble drier to dry them quickly. They are one size and will need boosting on older babies, and the muslins or flannelette booster liners below are excellent for this purpose, use 1 or 2 as necessary. The most popular liner is the soft flannelette squares, but the muslins are faster drying. You could however use any booster, even small prefolds, this is a very flexible mix and match nappy system. With the additional absorbent liners this is a very absorbent nappy system. Solids containment is also excellent if the nappy is fastened correctly as the nappy stretches snuggly around the legs making a lovely soft but secure seal without the need for elastic that can sometimes leave a mark on delicate little thighs. These are definitely a choice for parents who want an extra green experience, as the nappy is 100% organic cotton, no pins, velcro or any synthetics required to use them. You will need to stick at with them for a couple of weeks to get the hang of putting them on neatly and quickly, but most parents who do this, grow to really love these, and say they are glad they did persist. Use them with wool covers for the greenest route. The Disana organic wool pull on cover works well with this nappy, and would mean you have no fixings at all, i.e. no metal, no Velcro, no plastic.
The nappy can be washed at any temperature up to 90 degrees but 40-60 is fine most of the time. The ties can get tangled in the wash, so make a loop knot before washing, or use wash nets with a few nappies each inside.
The flannelette liners will benefit from at least one 90/95 degree wash when brand new to open and fluff up the fibres and kick-start absorbency. You can buy the absorbent flannelette liners or muslins from the related products links on this page. |
