Two or more sized shaped cloth nappies Two Size Shaped reusable Nappies are a two part system requiring an absorbent cloth nappy and separate cover. You will need to buy more than one size. Fitted cloth nappies are shaped and fitted rather like modern disposables, and fasten with either poppers or velcro, so are very easy to change. They take only a fraction longer than disposables to change, purely because you also have a cover to put on. Most are elasticated at the legs and waist, so are very leak proof, and are especially poo proof, very important in the early months when it's liquids only in, so most of what arrives at the other end is also somewhat liquid. Most wraps are suitable for use over these nappies, but some people prefer the higher waist and lower legs of Popper fastening wraps over shaped nappies. Velcro wraps are quicker and more infinitely adjustable though so it is down to personal preference. As you tend not to get too many messy wraps with these nappies, you will need only an average of 4 wraps per size, maybe 5 in the first size, and perhaps only 3 in the largest size over one year old. You will need around 20 nappies for full time use based on washing every other day (less when in toddlerhood). You will need to buy two or more sizes, which means they work out more expensive overall than one size nappies, but they do have a couple of advantages. Firstly they tend to give a slimmer fit, especially on a newborn, the size range tends to bit larger than a one size nappy, so they will fit small babies better, and larger toddlers better. Also, they don't suffer as much wear and tear, as each size is only used for about half the nappy period. The size range tends to bit larger than a one size nappy, so they will fit small babies better, and larger toddlers better. Therefore they are usually in good condition for passing onto another baby, and they may even last to a 3rd baby, although realistically, by then you may need to add some extra boosting, especially if the nappies have always been tumble dried. Some velcro may also need replacing by then. Two sized nappies don't usually come with their own boosters included in the price, so do remember to add the cost of those to the second size (not so necessary with Sandy's) Don't be afraid to mix and match (also with one sized nappies), many parents choose to have a selection of nappies, and as these are so easy to use, it's nice to have at least a few in your collection. They are also very easy to change for other carers if you plan to return to work, or if say, Grandparents may be taking an active caring role. If money is a consideration, then maybe buy as many shaped as you can afford and top up with some cheaper flat nappies as well. We have put the weight of the nappies in the info, this is because in most cases the absorbency can be judged by the weight, the more cotton weight, the more absorbent the nappy, although a nappy with some polyester will also be a little less absorbent. All shaped nappies can be washed regularly at 60 degrees. The occasional 90 degree wash is fine, but please bear in mind that velcro and elastic do not like being washed very often at 90 degrees, and your nappies will suffer more wear and tear at this temperature, so may not last as long. A very occasional 90 degree wash will be fine though. These nappies are not suitable for ironing. Not an issue in the UK, but very important if you are planning to travel overseas to certain hot countries (mostly in Africa I believe).
