Liners and Boosters
You may decide to use liners in your nappy system. These are by no means essential, but they are useful, especially in the early months when the baby's faeces are still very loose. Flushable liners can just be peeled off the nappy and flushed, and washable liners are easier to flush off in the toilet, than a whole nappy.
There are several types of liners, flushable and reusable. All liners are not absorbent, they are intended to hold the poo away from the nappy for easy disposal. Flushable liners are mostly a single use item, and are thrown away (flushed down the toilet after use), although most just wet liners will withstand a couple of washes, which makes them a little more economical to use. Our liners are all of a good size, which can be cut in half for a smaller baby.
Reusable liners are generally polyester fabric, that holds the poo away from the nappy, and lets wetness through, so that baby's skin is kept drier. Polyester fleece is particularly good at keeping the skin drier. Silk liners are also reusable, but they are not intended to keep the skin drier. Silk is used as a first aid treatment for nappy rash.
Boosters/booster liners are made of absorbent fabric, and are used to increase the absorbency of any nappy, especially at night. Boosters aren't really necessary in the early months, but most babies will need a bit more absorbency, especially overnight, as they grow. 8 to 9 months is often the time you will find this becomes necessary, although some babies may be heavy wetters and need them sooner. We have a selection of boosters here, made from several different fabrics, however, if you have muslins, which are very useful all round, these will fold to make booster pads, so you may not need to buy any specially made boosters.
.There are boosters available for almost every nappy on the market. Many are similar, and most are mix and match. You do not need to use the same brand nappy and booster together, use the ones you prefer. Also, as we have all ready said, if you have a pack of muslin nappies, you may not need any boosters at all, just fold them into a rectangle pad and place inside the nappy. If you baby is beginning to outgrow the nappy, but you don't want the next size yet, then place the booster, or muslin nappy outside the nappy, between the nappy and wrap, it works just as well. Most boosters take a while to dry, if you want a faster drying option, think about using muslins folded into a rectangle pad, or try the organic flannelette liners, these are square, you fold them in three to use as a booster, but they open up to dry faster.
Please note thatflushing anything more than toilet tissue can be a problem for some very oldplumbing systems, so if you live in an older house, please use these or anyother flushable product with care.

Bourette silk liners. These are a knitted raw silk, and are excellent for mildto moderate nappy rash. Just use in place of creams or other liners, preferablyovernight, and they have a miraculous effect on sore bottoms, especially atteething time. Use without any creams or ointments, as the silk needs to be indirect contact with the skin. Hand wash at 30 degrees or lower. We only stockthe larger size, as this is the more economical one to buy, and they can befolded in half without any problems (unlike flushable or fleece liners, whichmust be used single layered). Silk liners have a slightly odd smell, and if you wash them too hot, they will lose that smell. Howeever, they will also become less effective. The odd accidental wash at 60 degrees with the nappies won't do much harm, but please note, that these liners become less effective on nappy rash if washed at higher temperatures too many times. My own experience indicates that after 4-6 washes at over 30 degrees the healing properties are significantly reduced. Please also note that it is very hard to remove poo stains at 30 degrees, so overnight, when your baby is less likely to poo, is the best time to use these. You shouldn't need more than about 3 silk liners.
Bourette silk liner x 1, large, can be folded in two for smaller baby. Approx 43cm x 17 cm.
