Nappy Net/Mesh .Nappy storage and washing net. It fits into nappy bucket, and is a net/mesh that allows you to lift the nappies from the bucket into the washing machine without having to handle them, especially useful if you soak your nappies. You can leave small quantities of nappies in the bag for washing, but we'd recommend you empty the mesh into the machine for efficient cleaning of the nappies. If leaving the nappies in the net, leave the mesh open at the top, and the nappies will slowly fall out in the wash. When you no longer use it for nappies, the net is also useful for washing little children's socks and small items, to keep them together.

When it comes to change time, you don't have to use disposable wipes. Despite their name, most are no more disposable than disposable nappies. They are made of synthetics, are not flushable (look for a tiny symbol indicating this on the packet), and some babies are quite sensitive to the perfumes and chemicals in them. Therefore we have a range of washable wipes, flushable liners and a flushable wipe/liner. We do have one flushable, disposable wipe, but recommend these only for holiday times etc. You can dampen the cotton wipes with anything from plain water to your own wipes recipe.
Our favourite recipe was passed on by Lynn in Durham. A cup of chamomile tea, cooled, a few drops of lavender oil, (anti bacterial) and a little olive oil or grape seed (massage) oil. This will keep for a few days in a used plastic disposable wet wipes lidded box, just soak the wipe before use, or place several in at a time so they are ready for use when you need them. When changing your baby, first remove most of the solids with with ordinary toilet tissue, then clean baby's bottom with the wet wipes.

These change mats are really designed as absorbent and waterproof bed pads, however, the small size makes a really nice change mat, much nicer than those nasty plastic things that come with some many baby changing bags these days. The plastic ones go brittle and crack, and you'll need to buy another at some point. We used a similar bed pad to this, and we have since passed it onto to 2 other families. Cotton either side, with a waterproof, but breathable PUL inner layer, the mat is very soft, and absorbent, great for catching those little wees that inevitably happen at nappy change time. They fold up small, so will easiy go into your change bag, and are great for lining the pushchair/car seat when you get to potty training time. Your baby can also nap on it, although if this is your main aim, then we suggest one of the larger ones, sold as bed pads, below. You won't regret replacing your normal change mat with this.
Change Mat, unbleached cotton, 50 x 70 cm
£7.95
Soft brushed organic cotton with an inner layer of waterpoof and breathable rubber bed pads. We used one of these from late pregnancy on, until our daughter was reliably out of night nappies. No need to place under bed sheet, just lay this on the top, and remove for washing, if it gets too wet. To start with, sleep on one in late pregnancy to protect the bed from broken waters. Then once baby is born, if you feed your baby in bed at night, or even if you don't, but are breast feeding, sleep on the mat under your upper body, to protect the bed from milky leaks. The pad can also be placed under baby's head in the cot, to protect the mattress from milky vomit. Makes a decent sized kick mat foir the floor, that will also catch the little wees, if letting your baby kick without a nappy for a while. As baby grows, it can then be used as a bed protector, as they come out of nappies, and the absorbency means you don't need to place it under the bed sheet with a towel (as with the cheap highstreet store plastic bed protectors), just remove when wet, and the bed underneath is dry. Our's has now been passed through 2 other families, and is still going strong. Cotton either side, with a waterproof, but breathable polyurethane inner layer. Very useful item, and in the long run, much cheaper than disposable care mats. Can be used as a change mat as well, although we do a smaller version (above) if that is the only purpose you wish to use it for. Machine washable at up to 95 degrees, tumble dryable.

Now that Mummy is choosing lovely soft cotton nappies for the new addition to the family, it makes sense for your older children to want the same for their dolls. Not only that, it will save you a fair amount of money on special "Baby Born" dolly disposables (or newborn disposables as some people use). Your child will also enjoy washing the nappies along with the dolls other clothing and hanging them out to dry. this has been a favourite activity for all my children.Fits Baby Born doll, although it also fits Tiny tears and other dolls up to 43 cm high.
