One Size Birth to Potty Shaped cloth Nappies

One Size Shaped Nappies are a two part cloth nappy system requiring a nappy and separate cover that adjust to fit your baby from birth to potty. Fitted cloth nappies are shaped and fitted rather likemodern disposables, and fasten with either poppers or velcro, so are very easyto change. They take only a fraction longer than disposables to change, purelybecause you also have a cover to put on. Most are elasticated at the legs andwaist, so are very leak proof, and are especially poo proof, very important inthe early months when it's liquids only in, so most of what arrives at the otherend is also somewhat liquid.

Most wraps are suitable for use over these cloth nappies, but some people prefer the higher waist and lower legs of Popper fastening wraps over shaped cloth nappies. Velcro wraps are quicker and more infinitely adjustable though so it is down to personal preference. As you tend not to get too many messy wraps with these cloth nappies, you will need only an average of 4 wraps per size, maybe 5 in the first size, and perhaps only 3 in the largest size over one year old. You will need around 20 cloth nappies for full time use based on washing every other day (less when in toddlerhood).

One sized cloth nappies have the advantage of being more economical over the two and half years during which your baby will require nappies. They do cost a little more to purchase at the outset, but remember you don't have to buy another size later. They are also useful for families with more than one child in nappies at one time, as you don't have to worry about sorting sizes when they come out of the wash.

Don't be afraid to mix and match (also with two sized nappies), many parents choose to have a selection of cloth nappies, and as these are so easy to use, it's nice to have at least a few in your collection. They are also very easy to change for other carers if you plan to return to work, or if say, Grandparents may be taking an active caring role. If money is a consideration, then maybe buy as many shaped as you can afford and top up with some cheaper flat cloth nappies as well.

All shaped cloth nappies can be washed regularly at 60 degrees.  The occasional 90 degree wash is fine, but please bear in mind that velcro and elastic do not like being washed very often at 90 degrees, and your nappies will suffer more wear and tear at this temperature, so may not last as long. A very occasional 90 degree wash will be fine though. These cloth nappies are not suitable for ironing. Not an issue in the UK, but very important if you are planning to travel overseas to certain hot countries (mostly in Africa I believe).

Mother-ease One size cloth nappies~The original one size birth to potty popper fastening cloth nappy, sold separate from booster, available in unbleached or white cotton or Bamboo fibre.~

Mother-ease One Size Birth to Potty Popper fastening cloth Nappies. These are a size adjustable cloth nappy that can fit from birth to potty, made from soft stretchy knitted terry 85% cotton, 15%polyester, stretch towelling, or 85% bamboo fibre, 15% polyester. A series of poppers on the front allow you to adjust the nappy to fit most sizes for baby and the booster liner (optional additional purchase) allows you to increase absorbency as your baby grows. You may need additional boosters for night as they get older. The legs are nicely elasticated and seem to be very leak proof. There is binding around the leg rather than overlocking, which gives a neater look to the cloth nappy. As this cloth nappy adjusts in size, it is very suitable for families with more than one child of different ages in nappies and would also be suitable for parents who have perhaps switched to cloth nappies late with a baby, but who still have plans to have more children. One size are easy to wash and dry in medium time, though not as fast as terries or some prefolds. Stretch terry stays fairly soft when radiator dried.

Please note that the Mother-ease one size cloth nappies are sold without the booster, you need to buy these separately. They offer a choice of standard boosters, or stay dry boosters, with a polyester one way top to the booster, no other liners should be required. You may not need a booster for each cloth nappy you buy, as not all babies are very heavy wetters, so start with 5-10 boosters for 20 nappies, and add more if you feel they are needed. You will need boosters at night at some point, but a light wetter may not need them in the day all the time. You can also mix and match the napies and boosters, e.g. standard nappy with stay dry booster.

Mother-ease Multi Fit Birth to Potty Velcro fastening Nappies

Mother-ease multi fit Nappies are a one size and suitable for families with children of different ages still in nappies, but also as an economical way of using fitted shaped nappies from birth to potty. These nappies adjust by means of poppers and fasten with Velcro. Please note, the Mother-ease MultiFit is sold with the booster separately.  

The Mother-ease MultiFit is 4 layers of 85% cotton/15%polyester, in white soft stretch terry, the same design as the other two above, but the booster liner is sold separately. We may need to order this nappy specially for you, so please allow a little extra time for your order to arrive if you need more than 5 nappies. The nappy is a little thinner than the Popolino version. This gives a less bulky fit but you do lose a little absorbency. However, if you like this design, you could buy a combination of these for day, and the more absorbent Popolino Ultra Fits for night. 

The separate booster liner (available separately) allows you adjust the absorbency to suit your baby.

Tots Bots fitted terry nappy~A fitted shaped terry nappy that can be used birth to potty.~

Tot Bots One Size.  TotBots is a fitted, shaped terry nappy, being made in Scotland. Strictly speaking it is a two size nappy, but the nappy nippa size 2 version can be used as a one size birth to potty nappy. Both the manufacturer and I are sure the unbleached fabric is softer, so that is the version I shall be keeping in stock in the Nappy Nippa style. Besides, unbleached fabric has less impact on the environment and is therefore preferable for that reason alone.

There are no specific instructions for this nappy whe used as a one size,  but it is folded very much like a Mother-ease, but without the poppers, so for an idea of how to use the Tots Bots as a birth to potty nappy, click here, and follow the fold part, ignoring the poppers.  

The main part of this well made nappy has three layers of terry towelling, and the booster flap has two layers, making 5 layers in all. The booster flap is attached at the front of the nappy, which makes more sense for both baby boys and girls. The reason for the flap is to facilitate faster drying than would be possible than if all 5 layers of fabric were stitched down together. The nappy can be fastened with pins or nappy nippas, feedback so far is that the nappy nippas version is more popular with experienced cloth nappy users than the Aplix version, and it does indeed make a very neat fitting nappy. I have found this nappy to work very well without any nappy nippas or fastenings, used with a close fitting wrap. The Earthwise Contour wrap is very good for this and gives a very neat leakproof fit. Weight, 145 grams. ( the similar Imse Organic is 125g). Great price for a one size nappy.

Dolly Nappies

Now that Mummy is choosing lovely soft cotton nappies for the new addition to the family, it makes sense for your older children to want the same for their dolls. Not only that, it will save you a fair amount of money on special "Baby Born" dolly disposables (or newborn disposables as some people use). Your child will also enjoy washing the nappies along with the dolls other clothing and hanging them out to dry. this has been a favourite activity for all my children.Fits Baby Born doll, although it also fits Tiny tears and other dolls up to 43 cm high.
