Training Pants
Bright Bots Training pants
Bright Bots Training pants (although I prefer to call them wetness protectors or accident protectors). We have found these excellent "wetness protectors", which actually look more like real pants than anything else I've found up to now. They aren't suitable for catching a huge wee or overnight, but will catch and contain small accidents for long enough for you to find a toilet and change them. In general you shouldn't expect a trainer pant to replace a nappy, they are really for children who are almost there, almost dry, but who just need a bit of protection from accidents. The child does need to know that they are doing the wee before you can move onto these. These pants are good for sending your child to nursery or playgroup, if they aren't quite reliable yet about asking for the toilet in time. Once the child has told you they have wet themselves, you should change them as soon as possible, as these will only hold the wee for a few minutes before leaking around the legs.
The pants are 65% cotton/35% polyester stretch terry (loops on the inside, so they look like real pants outside), with a hidden PVC waterproof layer and a foam soaker. They wash nicely, and because the price is so reasonable, you can afford to buy a few more of these than most others on the market. They come in bright bold colours, in general we will send a mix suitable for boy or girl, so please state which you prefer. My size guide is very approximate, and is based more on the size of the child than age, as most children need these around 2-3 years anyway.
Small - very slim child, medium - slim to average child, large - average child, extra large - average to chubby. See the table below for more detailed measurements. We can exchange sizes on unused/unwashed pants, so please make sure that your child has just been to the toilet before trying these on, and please try them on over a pair of normal pants for good hygiene. The pants will need washing 2 or 3 times like normal cloth nappies before the first use. Do not use fabric conditioner. Please note, Bright Bots trainer pants are not suitable for overnight use or during long naps, daytime only.

Bedwetter Pants from Mother-ease. There is a wide range of normal age for becoming dry overnight. It can vary from 2 and 1/2 years to early teens. Some studies have shown the following figures.
1 in 6 five year olds (5 in a class of 30 children), 1 in 14 seven year olds (2 in a class of 30 children), 1 in 20 ten year olds, and even 1 in 30 twelve to fouteen year olds (1 per average school class). Therefore neither you nor your child should feel in the least bit embarrassed about bedwetting. It is extremely common.
There are of course disposable bedwetter pants, but these can work out very expensive for long term use, about £4 to £5 per week. So we have a washable alternative. They are bulkier than disposable bedwetter pants, so I must warn you that your child may not like to wear them in the company of their friends. However, for normal night wear, most find them more comfy than disposables, and several weeks down the line, you will be making real money savings.
The bedwetter pants are a pull on design, no poppers or velcro, so they don't seem as nappy like, and the waterproof, but breathable layer, is incorporated, for easy use. Your child can easily pull these down and up at night, if they do wake up to go to the toilet. They are extremely absorbent, and have been made to hold a full bladder worth of urine.
They do take quite a while to dry, as they have a lot of layers of fabric, but since you'll only need one per night, this isn't usually a problem. Most people buy 2 or 3, to give a 2-3 day wash cycle. They are best washed at 40 degrees, to maintain the waterproofness of the cover part. Wash and dry inside out.
Please note these are intended for children aged 3 and over, not babies. The legs are likely to be to big for most babies, and you will get leaks.
As a very rough guide, XS will fit most 3-5 year olds, S about 5 to 8 or so, and M about 8 to 10. However, please call or e-mail if you have any queries, we can guide you on the sizing.
Soft brushed organic cotton with an inner layer of waterpoof and breathable polyurethane. We used one of these from late pregnancy on, until our daughter was reliably out of night nappies. No need to place under bed sheet, just lay this on the top, and remove for washing, if it gets too wet. To start with, sleep on one in late pregnancy to protect the bed from broken waters. Then once baby is born, if you feed your baby in bed at night, or even if you don't, but are breast feeding, sleep on the mat under your upper body, to protect the bed from milky leaks. The pad can also be placed under baby's head in the cot, to protect the mattress from milky vomit. Makes a decent sized kick mat for the floor, that will also catch the little wees, if letting your baby kick without a nappy for a while. As baby grows, it can then be used as a bed protector, as they come out of nappies, and the absorbency means you don't need to place it under the bed sheet with a towel (as with the cheap highstreet store plastic bed protectors), just remove when wet, and the bed underneath is dry. Our's has now been passed through 2 other families, and is still going strong. Cotton either side, with a waterproof, but breathable polyurethane inner layer. Very useful item, and in the long run, much cheaper than disposable care mats. Can be used as a change mat as well, although we do a smaller version (above) if that is the only purpose you wish to use it for. Machine washable at up to 95 degrees, tumble dryable.
These change mats are really designed as absorbent and waterproof bed pads, however, the small size makes a really nice change mat, much nicer than those nasty plastic things that come with some many baby changing bags these days. The plastic ones go brittle and crack, and you'll need to buy another at some point. We used a similar bed pad to this, and we have since passed it onto to 2 other families. Cotton either side, with a waterproof, but breathable PUL inner layer, the mat is very soft, and absorbent, great for catching those little wees that inevitably happen at nappy change time. They fold up small, so will easiy go into your change bag, and are great for lining the pushchair/car seat when you get to potty training time. Your baby can also nap on it, although if this is your main aim, then we suggest one of the larger ones, sold as bed pads, below. You won't regret replacing your normal change mat with this.
